In August of 2023, a small group of friends and acquaintances from Oregon and Washington started gathering once a month for a series of deep dives into death and dying…and a little color craft as well. This project braids together my love of community building, Death education and bringing color into the world through natural dyeing.

All of the experiences include shared meals and time spent in nature at our homestead, some overnight camp-outs and day-long gatherings. In addition to exploring our perspectives, fears and curiosities about the dying process, we will participate in a simulated home funeral and backyard burial as part of building our understanding of After Death options and regulations in both states.

I’ll be posting monthly digests of the work we’re doing together so that folks interested can read, watch, listen and learn from the comfort of home. Some of the media curated for this experience is behind paywalls or involve books we’ve purchased as a group, but most are accessible on streaming platforms, websites, libraries or bookstores. Personal stories and experiences shared each month are kept confidential. The series ends May 2024.
